Trains to and from Oviedo Aviles Airport (OVD)

Two train companies provide service to the region of Asturias: the national RENFE line that travels south towards Madrid and the narrow gauge FEVE lines. Since the FEVE lines are not part of a national rail network, rail booking websites such as RailEurope do not recognize them. They, therefore, do not offer them as an option. This is an important fact to keep in mind. There is no option to purchase tickets in advance.

RENFE

Gijon, Oviedo, Mieres-Puente, and Pola de Lena are all connected to Leon, Palencia, Valladolid, and Madrid by RENFE's mainline train service. There are approximately three daily departures from Gijon and four from Oviedo.

Local Cercanias trains are also operated by RENFE throughout the central region of Asturias. Three lines operate in this region: Oviedo-San Juan de Nieva (including Avilés), Oviedo-El Entrego (east), and Gijon-Oviedo-Puente de los Fierros (south). For a map of these routes, please click here.

FEVE

FEVE trains run along several different regional routes in Asturias, connecting the region with neighboring Galicia and Cantabria. Some lines originate from Gijon-Laviana, Gijon-Cudillero, Oviedo-San Esteban de Pravia, and Oviedo-Infiesto inside the building.

After that, several different routes depart from Oviedo, including one that connects Oviedo with Ferrol in Galicia, essentially following the west coast of Asturias and making stops at Cudillero, Luarca, Navia, and Castropol before crossing the border at Ribadeo, and another that travels east to Santander in Cantabria (where there is a FEVE connection on to Bilbao), once again taking a coastal route that.

There is no option to purchase tickets in advance for FEVE trains. However, given that these trains are primarily used for commuting over shorter distances and not long ones, you will likely require assistance to purchase tickets.

Tourist Trains

Additionally, the FEVE company operates tourist trains all over the northern region of Spain. The most traveled route is the Transcantabrico, which travels from Ferrol in Galicia to Bilbao, with stops in Oviedo and Santander along the way. This route also provides coach connections to Santiago de Compostela and San Sebastian. The Transcantabrico is divided into two classes: the Transcantabrico Clasico and the Transcantabrico Gran Lujo.

Another train, the Estrella del Cantábrico, operates in Asturias. It serves two routes: the Itinerario de la Santina, which begins in Gijon and travels to Covadonga, and the Itinerario de Biosfera, which also begins in Gijon and travels all the way to the Parque Natural de Redes.
