In El Hierro, you can practice all types of immersions, from the calmest ones, de-energized and at shallow depths, with a high experience grade required.

Here you will find some of the main zones of scuba diving in Spain, such as the scuba diving zone of El Bajón or the scuba diving zone of La Restinga of El Hierro, among others. All of them will impress you with their incredible submarine landscapes full of life, richness, and considerable ecologic value. The island's seabed is an authentic paradise for every scuba diving lover.

Most immersion zones are just a few minutes from El Muelle de la Restinga. El Mar de las Calmas, being sheltered from the Alisios wind, has good weather practically all days of the year. Inside the reserve, anchoring is only possible with one embarkment per buoy, which permits an almost exclusive scuba diving without massification of scuba divers.

Have a dip in the cove at El Tacorón

A calm sea for chilling in El Hierro.

Although El Hierro has fewer beaches than the others of the Canary Islands, la Cala de Tacoron is without no doubt one of the bests. Located in the southeast part of the island and near el Mar de las, Calmas perfectly describes its waters because it counts with the Atlantic calmer during the year. A small beach with a peculiar contrast of colors, the blueish water merges with the ochres and clacks of the sand.

It is so accessible and near to other places of interest that planning a route that starts or finishes in the Cala de Tacorón is a guaranteed plan. The road goes to the seaside village of La Restinga, where you can taste a delicious fresh fish dish. For those who prefer being all day in the water, you can enjoy the nearest beaches and natural swimming pools.

Orchilla Lighthouse

Address: Diseminado Orchilla Cl, 1, 38912, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain

A lighthouse at the end of the world.

At sea to the west of the Island of El Hierro, Orchilla Lighthouse was the location of the prime meridian until relatively recently. This iconic corner of the most minor Canary Islands is an entrance to the unknown. At Punta de la Orchilla and easily accessible by car, it is somewhere to visit because of: its skies, orange sunsets, and peaceful surroundings.

An observatory by the sea and the former location of the Prime Meridian.

The Orchilla Lighthouse is in the west of El Hierro and is very easy to drive to. It offers a natural platform to observe the skies beside the Atlantic Ocean with virtually no light contamination. This place has historical value as well as essential astronomic value. In the 17th Century, the area was chosen as the Prime Meridian until it was changed to Greenwich in 1885.

View the Taurus constellation announcing the end of autumn.

As darkness falls in Orchilla in November, look to the east with the sea at your back and the lighthouse to the left, and you can see a constellation marking the end of autumn. This is Taurus, with its characteristic shape of a head with parallel horns. In the pilot, where stars form the shape of a V, one star shines brighter than the others – Aldebaran, an Arab name meaning 'the follower' as it appears to follow the Pleiades during its orbit. To the naked eye, it resembles a comet, but you can see the splendid display with binoculars or a telescope.

Meridian 0, El Pinar

Address: El Pinar, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain

Phone: N/A

Suppose you have a 4×4 or trail bike like us. In that case, we encourage you to visit the point that for hundreds of years was considered the 0 meridians of the planet (until it was moved to Greenwich). The road is with stones and dirt, so we recommend that you don't go through it if you do not have a suitable vehicle.

The Island of El Hierro has a small area. All the track you will find at the end of the post takes place in less than 100km of area. There is a perfect off-road track with Trail motorbikes that cross the island through the center. And that branches out, showing us different corners such as the mythical tree twisted by the wind, La Sabina.

Other dirt tracks are further away, such as the one that passes through the old zero meridians, only suitable for 4×4 and Trail bikes. We also find other dirt tracks to get to a beach, such as El Verodal.

In short, the track is made up of 65% asphalt. The rest are dirt tracks with little difficulty. We are linking them while we visit different charming towns on the Island of El Hierro. Also, enjoy its winding roads, often without a shoulder or security fences. Which makes them more beautiful.

El Hierro's views will take your breath away.

We find La Peña's viewpoint in Guarazoca, in the North part of El Hierro. The views are of the valley of El Golfo, showing the Fuga de la Gorreta, a cliff elevated more than a thousand meters above the sea and where previously the shepherds moved freely along the slopes. From this viewpoint, we can also be appreciated the rocks of Salmor, the vineyards, and the fruit trees that reach the coast.

The viewpoint restaurant of César Manrique.

A viewpoint with a name of its own, in this case, Cesar Manrique. A pearl is situated at each of the island's highest points and was designed by the Canarian architect to make a tribute to the land and create a fresh and welcoming environment. The result was a work decorated with plants, oversized windows, and ceilings made of stone. The inside is dedicated exclusively to the Viewpoint Restaurant of La Peña, for the customer to enjoy a menu of Canarian gastronomy.

It includes viewpoint, touristic information, Height 645 meters, protected space (rural park), trekking route, parking Restauration
